What you can ask across your Xero organisations

Ask about reports, invoices, bills, debtors and payments in a conversation with your assistant. Reads come from Xero when asked. Proposed changes wait for human approval.

Questions for a group finance team

Compare Profit and Loss or Balance Sheet reports side by side for up to 30 organisations that share a base currency with get_xero_group_report. Ask which customers have overdue balances using get_xero_outstanding_receivables. These are comparative reads, not consolidated accounts: there are no intercompany eliminations or account mapping. Invio works with Xero; your books stay in Xero and the assistant reads them when you ask.

Side by side, not consolidation

The group report lays out one row per account, one column per organisation and a Total column. The totals are added up on Invio's server, so the assistant relays the numbers rather than doing the sums itself. It is a plain side-by-side sum. If you need statutory consolidated statements, that work still happens in your consolidation process.
The group report doesPuts Profit and Loss or Balance Sheet figures for several organisations in one tableThe group report does notEliminate intercompany loans, sales or recharges; they are counted on both sides
The group report doesMatches accounts by exact account code, or by exact name where an account has no codeThe group report does notMap differently named or differently numbered accounts; they stay as separate rows
The group report doesCovers the organisations you have authorised, within your plan's organisation limitThe group report does notConvert currencies; if the base currencies differ the call is refused and each currency is listed
The group report doesNames the organisation and the reason if one cannot be readThe group report does notReturn a partial total; if any one organisation fails, the whole call fails

Drill into the underlying records

List invoices and bills, then inspect an individual invoice with get_xero_invoice for its line details. Review recorded payments with list_xero_payments; payments are an optional permission you choose to grant. For example: "Show the line items on invoice INV-1048 in Acme Holdings" or "Which customer balances are overdue in our NZ entities?"

Example prompts

These are the kinds of questions the connector is built for. Replace the names with your own organisations. The assistant uses the exact organisation names Xero holds for your connection, which it can list for you.
"Show Profit and Loss for all my organisations for last month, side by side."
"Compare the Balance Sheet of Acme NZ and Acme AU as at 30 September."
"Which customers owe us money across our NZ entities, and how much is overdue?"
"List unpaid invoices in Acme Holdings and open the largest one."
"Show the line items on invoice INV-1048 in Acme Consulting."
"What payments were recorded against Meridian Ltd last week?"
"Which organisations can you see, and which of them am I allowed to read?"
"Draft an invoice for Meridian Ltd for $3,500 plus GST in Acme Consulting, due in 20 days."

Which tool answers which question

Your assistant picks the tool; you only ask the question. If you want to know what is behind an answer, these are the real tool names.

Prepare changes for review

Ask the assistant to draft an invoice or manual journal. Those write tools create a pending change for approval; they do not directly post the proposed change to Xero. Payment records can also be drafted, but Invio does not move money. See how approvals work.

How to connect more than one organisation

Xero's consent screen connects one organisation at a time. On the consent screen, choose one organisation from the list. To add another, return to Invio and choose "Connect another", then repeat for each organisation you want your assistant to reach. Your assistant can then work with the organisations authorised to your connector. It can list organisation names, types and authorisation details; it does not expose tenant IDs, base currencies or financial year ends through that list. The setup guide walks through each screen.

Questions we get asked

Can one question cover several organisations?
Yes. The assistant can work through authorised organisations, and the group report tool can return supported reports side by side for up to 30 organisations in one base currency.
Can I see all my Xero organisations in one report?
Yes, side by side. The group report puts Profit and Loss or Balance Sheet figures for the organisations you choose in one table with a Total column. It is not a consolidated statement.
Is this a financial consolidation tool?
No. It provides side-by-side reports and does not map accounts, translate currencies or eliminate intercompany balances.
Does it consolidate multi-currency groups?
No. The group report works only when the chosen organisations share one base currency. If they do not, the call is refused and each organisation's currency is listed, so you can run it for the organisations that share a currency.
How many organisations can the group report cover?
Up to 30 organisations in one call, within the organisation limit on your plan. A team member restricted to certain organisations only ever gets those.
How do I connect more than one Xero organisation?
Xero's consent screen connects one organisation at a time. Choose one, then return to Invio and choose "Connect another" for each further organisation.
Can Invio transfer money?
No. A payment tool records a payment in Xero; it does not initiate a bank transfer.
Where can I learn about payroll or approvals?
