What you get, and where it stops

This calculator provides clean, fast arithmetic for quotes and invoices. Here is what is included and where invoicing software takes over.

What it does

  • Adds 10% GST to exclusive amounts, or extracts 10% GST from inclusive totals.
  • Displays the exclusive amount, 10% GST portion, and inclusive total side by side.
  • Uses exact 1/11 fraction calculation for inclusive GST to prevent rounding errors.
  • One-click copy for any calculated figure directly to your clipboard.

What it does not do

  • Does not prepare or submit your Business Activity Statement (BAS) to the ATO.
  • Does not automatically generate an invoice document from the calculation.
  • Does not determine whether your specific sales are GST-free or input taxed.
  • Does not sync figures to your bank feed or accounting software.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is GST in Australia?
The standard GST rate in Australia is 10% for most goods and services.
How do I add GST to an amount in Australia?
To add GST to a GST-exclusive amount, multiply by 1.1 to find the total inclusive price, or multiply by 0.1 to find the GST amount alone. For example, A$100 plus 10% GST is A$110 total (A$10 GST).
How do I remove GST from a total?
To find the GST-exclusive amount from a GST-inclusive total, divide the total by 1.1. To find the GST component inside the total, divide by 11. For example, inside an A$110 total, the GST portion is A$110 ÷ 11 = A$10, and the exclusive price is A$100.
Why divide by 11 to remove GST?
Because 10% is added on top of a base of 100%, making the GST-inclusive total 110% of the original price. GST is therefore 10 out of every 110 parts, or exactly 1/11 of the total.
When do I have to register for GST in Australia?
You must register for GST with the ATO once your gross business turnover reaches or is projected to reach A$75,000 in any 12-month period. You must register within 21 days of reaching or expecting to reach that threshold.
Do I need an ABN to issue invoices in Australia?
You do not need to be GST-registered to invoice, but without an ABN the payer may be required to withhold 47% of the payment under the no-ABN withholding rule for payments over A$75 (excluding GST).
